How To Be A MORE Persuasive Marketer: Perfecting Your “Conversational” Copy Tone

Ever go through a Yellow Pages Book and read all the ads… just for fun?

No?

Weird… Because it seems like such an interesting and entertaining activity, right?

No. Not really.

…And the funny thing is, most digital marketers write Facebook posts, emails, and sales copy like a “Yellow Pages” ad. Nobody is having a conversation with us…

They’re pitching us.

And that’s cool. There is a place for that type of copy, and the Yellow pages might be that place. But, if you want to become a more persuasive copywriter, then you’ve got to discover your “inner conversational voice.” Here’s how to do that…

Ya Dig? Smack me a comment below and let me know what your big “take-away” was!

It’s simple stuff really.

Writing in “proper” English is what is difficult. All those rules you’ve got to follow – the dry, boring, mundane tone of it all… ugh.

When you discover how to write like you talk, you can really captivate your audience in a way that you never have before. It’s like story-telling.

It’s got the same allure and vibe.

Play with it. Don’t worry about if you “mess up” or turn people off. That’s the point!

Play. Have fun with it. And cultivate this wonderful conversational voice that we all have already.

  • I loved the message here Nick, reading out loud is the best way to check out your conversational tone. The back ground to your video, by the way, is stunning. Thanks for the tips , I’m writing my book as well and I will read this out loud too.

    • Thank you Lynda :) I do this with everything – just editing a video script too and, of course, reading it outloud to really capture that conversational, natural tone.

  • Yes! Disregard all those English Proper communications skills! Who really uses them today besides English teachers?

Although for me I find that I rarely use Caps when starting a new sentence while texting or creating posts on FB. I have yet to try this in email marketing so this was very helpful!

    • haha nice! Yeah, there’s definitely a place for doing that – I’d say, ‘dialog’ emails would be a perfect place for the low-case texts
